Effect of Nitrogen and Potassic Fertilizers on the Performance of BRRI Dhan28 and BRRI Dhan29 in Boro Season

Abstract:

Effect of nitrogen and potassic fertilizers on the performance of BRRI dhan28 and BRRI dhan29 in Boro season was studied in December 2003 through May 2004 at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh. The experiment was laid out in a split plot design with three replications. Two rice varieties viz. BRRI dhan28 and BRRI dhan29 and seven fertilizer levels viz. no N or K (control), low N (50% of recommended N), recommended N, high N (150% of recommended N), low K (50% of recommended K), recommended K and high K (150% of recommended K) were selected in the experiment. In lowering spikelet sterility and increasing grain yield the recommended N and K showed the best performance. In terms of optimum N and K requirements for yield contributing characters, grain and straw yields the two varieties were different to each other. For obtaining highest grain yields, the optimum requirements of nitrogen and potassic fertilizers were 121 kg N and 66.75 kg K/ha for BRRI dhan28, and 123.50 kg N and 70.50 kg K/ha for BRRI dhan29, respectively.
