Potash Facts.
Sustainable yields, high quality, healthy crops, productive ecosystems.

(translated by Prof. Hamam Abd El Hadi et al., ARC Cairo, Egypt).
Over the past 25 years, the Arabic Region has seen considerable changes in land use and crop production. The irrigated area expanded from about 7.3 to almost 11 million ha, cereal production nearly doubled to 38 million t, fruit and vegetable production more than doubled to 16 and 26 million t, respectively, to name only few aspects.
By and large, the use of nitrogenous and phosphoric fertilizers has kept pace with crop removal of N and P but this is not the case for potash. The gap between crop removal and potash use is steadily widening and already potassium removal exceeds the amount applied by 1.4 million t K2O.
Changes in cropping pattern and the demand for more and better food by the burgeoning population on the one side and continuous soil K mining on the other call for profound and reliable advice which extension workers can pass on to farmers. In order to close the gap in knowledge, IPI is now issuing, in Arabic, the well known 'Potash Facts' supplemented with additional results from the Arabic Region.
In 182 pages, the reader is informed on the function of potassium in the plant and its behavior in the soil; he will also find practical recommendations for a wide range of crops.
